Fifty Shades of Gain: Don’t Get Whipped by Valentine’s Day!

Fifty Shades

Valentine’s Day, a day that celebrates love and sweethearts, is actually a day that represents a love-hate relationship. It seems to me that half of us like V-Day and the other half of us have nothing good to say about it. Some of us are blessed to experience Valentine’s Day everyday (thank you, Christian) – but whether you love or hate Valentine’s Day, there is a very good chance that Valentine’s Day will whip you.

Now, there’s this little film coming out this weekend, I’m not sure if you’ve heard of it, but it’s called Fifty Shades of Grey. Today’s article will tackle the potential food pitfalls of Valentine’s Day while being inspired by the Fifty Shades theme. Enjoy!

How do you plan to spend Valentine’s Day? Do you have a sweetheart? Do you participate in the giving and receiving of chocolates and other love-filled fare? Will there be a romantic dinner followed by…eh hem…afterward? Or are you a V-Day hater who wants nothing to do with the holiday and plans to eat their way through it by watching tear-jerkers while making Ben & Jerry jealous as you indulge with Russell Stover?

Beware! Whether you have a Valentine or not, this day can grab you from behind, tie you down and force-feed you junk food.

If you are going to the movies, remember to plan for some BDSM; Belief, Discipline, Strength and Motivation what did you think I was talking about?

You need the motivation to make good choices, first and foremost. Bring a smart snack with you or shop before you get to the theater for something small and appropriate that you can smuggle in. Activate your personal strength and discipline to engage in BDSM so Valentine’s Day doesn’t whip you. Believe that you will enjoy the movie just as much without stuffing your face with nachos and popcorn.

By resorting to BDSM, you have built-in assistance to set your hard limits and soft limits – and if you find yourself in a position you don’t like, holler out that safe-word and stop that crazy behavior! Don’t get flogged by the choices you make on Valentine’s Day. Keep things vanilla and don’t go crazy with the candy and other junk foods. What you experiment with on Valentine’s Day will hang around for some time afterward and may provoke questions from your friends and family about what secret behavior you’ve been getting into.

When it comes to your relationship with food, you have to be dominant, or the one who demonstrates full control in the relationship – you cannot be submissive.

You don’t have to go through this weekend with a blindfold on – unless you’re into that. Take off the blindfold, open your eyes to the life you want to live and make choices that are conducive to that life. If you see the film and think of expanding your horizons, you’ll want to look awesome when you do, so keep that in the back of your mind. You don’t want to be tied up thinking, “Man, I really should have higher standards when it comes to what I’ll do for a Klondike bar.”

Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love – no matter what anyone else thinks. Don’t let it get you down, don’t try to comfort yourself with food because it always makes you feel worse. Try something new! I hope this article made you laugh and for those of you who have read the book, I hope you’ve enjoyed my wordplay.

Go love somebody and don’t get whipped by Valentine’s Day!
