Happy New You! In today’s article, I am discussing why you should ditch your “diet” before you go any further into January; what foods you should stop eating and which foods you should run to; why you should have at least one glass of wine every night and the one thing you can do every day to “drink” from the fountain of youth!
Diets usually forbid a lot of what we like and then we get to a point with our diets that we “deserve” to eat certain garbage foods or better yet – certain healthy foods that just aren’t part of the diet. When we eat the deserved garbage, we sabotage our efforts. We are emotionally affected by our “failure” to stick with the diet and we then medicate with more “disallowed” food because it will “make us feel better” when in reality, if we had just eaten the first dose of garbage, said “okay, no more” and resumed our efforts, that teeny little episode may have just been a blip on the radar instead of a catastrophic disaster that annihilated any and all hopes of getting to our goal weight.
STOP DIETING & START LIVING!
START eating WHOLE foods. I didn’t say SHOP at Whole Foods – I said start EATING them. Meaning, eat food in its most natural state or gently produced if you can’t find something whole and real. Eat fat. Eat sugar. Eat oil. Eat it all. Just don’t eat more than you need. Oh, and there’s nothing natural about Doritos. If you can find the Dorito tree, where they grow naturally, please tell me and we can go live under this tree, together.
Stop Eating Fat-Free
It is not good for you! Take a look at the ingredients (AKA CHEMICALS) the next time you are “doing something good for yourself” by eating fat-free. Get familiar with all of those extra ingredients that you will be consuming so the product, “tastes so good it’s hard to believe it’s fat-free.” Yeah, it might be fat-free but guess what! The other ingredients will most likely contribute to the overall result of making you fat. How about that!?
Stop Eating Low-Fat
Same reasons apply as eating Fat-Free. No good can come from this.
I want you to eat the foods you love and be able to take off the excess weight. This year, why not resolve the expedient weight-loss strategies that lead you right back to where you started if not heavier than when you started – and begin focusing on eating for your happiness?
Eat Healthy Fats
Our bodies need fat and the best kinds to consume are Monounsaturated and Polyunsaturated. The kinds of fat that you DO NOT WANT to eat are Saturated and Trans Fats. Trans fats can be found in products that have been through the process of “hydrogenation” which is when a liquid fat takes a solid shape – like a stick of butter. Remember – even if the label doesn’t list Trans Fat as a fat present in the food, it doesn’t mean it’s not there. Current food labeling legislation only requires that foods that contain a certain percentage of things like types of fat, have to be reported with Daily Value percentages on the label. Your best bet is to be a smarty pants and READ THE INGREDIENTS. Great examples of mono- and polyunsaturated fats can be found in naturally healthy-fat foods like avocados, olive oil, safflower oil, coconut oil, palm fruit oil, almonds and almond butter. Fat-Free foods mess with your head while healthy-fat foods make your head happy, your tummy full and they fill your body with the belief that you actually ate something.
Fat-Free often leaves us feeling empty and wanting more. And then what do we do? We tell ourselves that it’s okay to eat more of the Fat-Free stuff because it’s lower in calories and that means that we can eat more of it. WRONG!
Eat Fruits and Vegetables
Fruits and Vegetables are packed with vital nutrients that our bodies need. Find the ones you like, the more colorful – the better and eat them, eat them, eat them. Eat more vegetables than fruit and consume the skins as often as possible. Skins of vegetables contain the fiber, which is the most important part when it comes to feeling full and keeping you from being constipated. Yeah, I said it. We all enjoy a good “go” – which you will have, if you eat fiber and consume plenty of water. If you eat plenty of fiber and don’t drink enough water, you’re going to have an issue that requires a lot more than toilet tissue.
I don’t care what you have to do to it – DRINK IT! Of course, don’t squirt those water enhancers full of aspartame and corn syrup in your water, but try making it taste more appealing to you by infusing it with lemon, lime, orange, mint, cucumber, watermelon, or strawberry slices. Water is literally the fountain of youth. Our skin cells need moisture and rejuvenation and when we consume water, it works with our derma from the inside-out, causing us to have more radiant looking skin rather than skin that appears dried-out, tired, and in need of a team of surgeons who stand at the ready to nip-tuck us back to our twenties. Just drink water – it feels good, you’ll feel full, and you’ll look great.
Have a GLASS or TWO of Wine Every Night and Get Some Sleep!
While some of us have mastered maintaining life stress levels, the majority of us have not. Enjoy a 4 ounce glass of wine (or two) every night, preferably red, and relax. I recommend deciding ahead of time, how many you’re going to have. Pour it happily into the most beautiful glass you have, and sit down with the television off, nice, peaceful music playing, and as you raise the glass to sip the wine, inhale through your nose so the aroma of the wine is breathed in as it’s also tasted. This enhances the flavor of the wine, enhances its effect on your tongue and the rest of the sensors in your mouth, and you will be consciously deep breathing with inhales of vino and exhales of stress in the form of “ahhh…that’s good!” Sleep should soon follow, being deep and restful, preparing you to wake the next day refreshed and ready to take on the world!
Does this all sound good? I hope so! Sounds good to me! But most of this is not allowed on a diet. So if you’ve already started one, ditch it – you have my permission – and START LIVING. Get the word “diet” out of your vocabulary and just start “LIVING” which includes FEELING GOOD.
Happiness is not found in food – let’s make that clear. Happiness is found in YOU. Eating to feel better never works because you always feel worse than you did when you started eating for happiness.
Let’s recap: We discussed why you should ditch your “diet” before you go any further into January; what foods you should stop eating and which foods you should run to; why you should have at least one glass of wine every night and the one beverage you need in order to “drink from the fountain of youth” everyday!
We are all works in progress and as we keep sculpting ourselves into the masterpieces we wish to become, we need to remember that what we become is greatly impacted by what we eat and how we live our lives.
Now get out there and make today and every day, AMAZING!
